Renowned television presenter Patz Larubi, a well-known face on Wan Luo TV, has been hospitalized following a serious road accident that occurred on Thursday 15th/may 2025 in Oyam District, northern Uganda.
The accident happened around 6:45 PM near Minakulu Trading Centre, along the busy Gulu–Kampala highway. According to preliminary reports, Larubi was returning to Gulu from Kampala where he had attended a community gathering. The vehicle he was traveling in, a Toyota Harrier, lost control and overturned after the driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck that had unexpectedly crossed into their lane.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described a chaotic moment, as the vehicle rolled off the tarmac and into the roadside bushes. Residents nearby rushed to offer help before police and emergency responders arrived. Larubi, who was in the front seat at the time of the accident, was pulled from the wreckage conscious but in visible pain.
He was immediately transported to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained injuries to his leg and chest. A CT scan was conducted to rule out internal damage. Medical staff say he is in stable condition but will remain under observation for the next 48 hours.
Dr. Denis Ogwal, a senior physician at the hospital, gave a brief statement late Saturday night: “Mr. Larubi arrived in a state of trauma but was alert and cooperative. We have stabilized him, and he is responding well to treatment. However, further monitoring is necessary to ensure there are no delayed complications.”
The driver of the vehicle, who has not yet been publicly named, reportedly suffered only minor injuries. Police from Oyam Central Station have begun investigations into the incident. Authorities believe poor visibility and speeding may have contributed to the accident. An official statement from the Uganda Police Force is expected in the coming days.
Patz Larubi is celebrated across northern Uganda for his unique storytelling skills and energetic presentation style. At Wan Luo TV, he has been the voice behind several programs that focus on cultural identity, local news, and community development. His work has made him a household name, especially among Acholi-speaking audiences both within Uganda and in the diaspora.
News of the accident spread quickly across social media platforms, with fans and fellow journalists expressing shock and concern. The hashtag #StandWithPatz began trending locally within hours, as people shared words of encouragement and photos from his past television appearances.
Wan Luo TV, through their corporate affairs office, released a statement confirming the accident and expressing support for Larubi and his family.
> “We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident involving our colleague and brother Patz Larubi. Our thoughts are with him as he receives medical care, and we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. Patz is a vital part of our team and an inspiration to many.”
Several colleagues from the station visited the hospital on Sunday morning, alongside friends, relatives, and community leaders. Outside the emergency wing, groups of supporters were seen praying and holding banners with messages of hope.
Larubi’s contributions to media and culture have earned him recognition far beyond his television role. In 2023, he was honored by the Acholi Cultural Foundation for his role in promoting indigenous language programming. His ability to blend education and entertainment has endeared him to viewers of all ages.
As the public continues to follow his recovery, authorities are also using the incident as a reminder of the dangers on Ugandan highways. The Gulu–Kampala road, one of the busiest in the region, has seen a rise in accidents in recent months due to reckless driving and poor weather conditions.
For now, fans and well-wishers remain hopeful that Patz Larubi will return to the screen soon. His resilience, passion, and connection to the people have made him not just a media figure, but a symbol of cultural pride in northern Ugandan.
