Eight Youth Detained in Amolatar Over Suspected Gang Related Crimes.
Police in Amolatar District have taken eight young men into custody following an operation aimed at dismantling a suspected criminal network accused of disturbing the peace in Etam Town Council.
The arrests were carried out during a targeted security sweep based on intelligence reports, according to regional authorities. Officers say the operation was prompted by repeated complaints from residents who reported a rise in violent and theft-related incidents in the area.
The suspects, whose ages range from 18 to 26, were identified as Ronald Ogwal, Dan Ogwang, Jasper Tema, Justine Ogang, Bonny Ogwal, Rogers Otim, Rolex Otim, and Daniel Ogang. All of them are believed to come from Arwot “A” Cell and nearby neighborhoods within Arwot Ward.
North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the arrests, noting that security agencies had been closely monitoring the group for some time following community reports linking them to criminal activity. He explained that residents had raised alarm over frequent cases of people being ambushed along roads, as well as theft of personal belongings, intimidation, and other violent acts.
Authorities also revealed that some complaints involved serious allegations such as sexual assault and threats directed at individuals who attempted to resist or report the suspects. These incidents reportedly created fear among locals, especially during evening hours.
Police stated that the latest operation was carefully planned to prevent further harm to the community and restore a sense of safety in the town council. Officers carried out coordinated arrests to ensure that no suspects escaped during the crackdown.
The eight individuals are currently being held at a local police facility as investigations continue. They are facing preliminary charges related to threatening violence, though officials say additional charges could be added depending on the findings of ongoing inquiries.
Security officials have urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with law enforcement by sharing any relevant information that could support the investigation. They emphasized that community vigilance plays a key role in preventing crime and ensuring lasting peace.
Police also reiterated their commitment to intensifying patrols and intelligence operations across Amolatar District to curb criminal activity and protect residents from further threats.
