Catechist commits suicide in Unyama.

Residents of Olano in Agung Village, Unyama Sub-County in Gulu District are grieving after a respected community catechist was found dead in a suspected suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Celsio Arop, a 60-year-old church catechist who had been serving his local Christian community for many years.

According to local residents, Arop’s body was discovered by family members near his home. The incident has shocked many people in the area, where he was known for his involvement in church activities and community guidance.

The LC III Chairperson of Unyama Sub-County, Justine Kidega, confirmed the incident and described the situation as deeply unfortunate for both the family and the wider community.

Kidega explained that local authorities, together with police officers, have begun inquiries to determine what circumstances may have led to the tragic event. He urged residents to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work.

Community members who spoke after the incident expressed sadness, noting that Arop had been an active religious leader who often supported families through spiritual teachings and church programs.

Police have since documented the case as investigations continue. Leaders in the area are also encouraging residents to check on one another and seek help from family members, religious leaders, or counselors whenever they face overwhelming challenges.

The body has been taken for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Local leaders say they will continue working with the family and the community during this difficult period.
