Over 75 Flood-Affected Residents in Buliisa Receive Cash Relief from KAWIDA

Buliisa: Relief has come to more than 75 of the most vulnerable residents affected by recent floods in Buliisa District after the Kakindo Women Integrated Development Agency (KAWIDA) extended cash support to them.

The beneficiaries include persons with disabilities, widows, elderly residents, and women-headed households drawn from Butiaba Town Council, Butiaba Sub-county, Buliisa Sub-county, Buliisa Town Council, and Wanseko Town Council.

Speaking during a meeting held yesterday evening at Buliisa Community Hall, the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee, Mr. Samuel Magambo, urged beneficiaries to use the support responsibly. He advised them to invest the 100,000 shillings each received in small businesses and other income-generating activities that can help sustain their families in the long term.

Mr. Magambo emphasized that the money provided by KAWIDA is intended to help families recover from the devastating effects of flooding and should not be misused.

According to Mr. Harrison Asaba, the KAWIDA Project Officer, 15 of the most vulnerable flood victims were selected from each of the five targeted areas.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Sarah Birungi, expressed her gratitude, noting that the assistance came at a time when many families are struggling to access food. She pledged to use the funds to improve her household’s living conditions.

Meanwhile, the Buliisa Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Kamanda Kabagambe, cautioned beneficiaries against spending the money on alcohol and other non-essential items, urging them to prioritize activities that will improve their livelihoods.
