President Museveni highlights NRM achievements in Hoima rally
“Thank you for coming in big numbers. The first contribution is peace—and that one we don’t need to explain,” Museveni told the crowd.
Hoima: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni received a warm welcome at Booma Grounds yesterday as he addressed a large campaign rally in the company of First Daughter Mrs. Natasha Museveni Karugire and senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders.
During the rally, the President presented the NRM Manifesto to residents of Hoima District and City, highlighting seven key contributions the movement has made to Uganda over the last 40 years. He emphasized peace, development, wealth creation, and job creation as the foundation of Uganda’s transformation.
“Thank you for coming in big numbers. The first contribution is peace—and that one we don’t need to explain,” Museveni told the crowd.
Museveni outlined improvements in both economic and social infrastructure, including upgraded roads in Hoima and the wider Bunyoro region, expanded telecommunication services, and electrification connecting 12 of 14 sub-counties, with the remaining two—Kiganja and Kijongo—set for connection in the next term.
In education, Hoima District now has 64 government primary schools and 6 secondary schools, while Hoima City has 33 primary and 5 secondary schools. Four Seed Secondary Schools are under construction, reducing the number of sub-counties without a government secondary school from eight to four.
In healthcare, Hoima District has 1 HCIV, 9 HCIIIs, and 9 HCIIs, with upgrades including elevation of Kigorobya HCIV to a General Hospital. Hoima Regional Referral Hospital features a functional CT scan, a new X-ray machine, four radiologists, a six-bed ICU, and a 15m³ oxygen plant.
Museveni stressed that development must be paired with wealth creation at household level. He encouraged small landholders to adopt the four-acre model and urged large landowners to invest in tea, ranching, and cotton.
On oil, the President emphasized responsible management of Uganda’s confirmed 6.5 billion barrels of crude oil in the Albertine region, urging investment in long-term projects. He also announced plans for a separate agro-processing industrial park alongside the Kabalega Industrial Park for petroleum products.
The President noted that job creation will stem from commercial agriculture, factories, services, and ICT, encouraging youth to utilize skilling centres to acquire employable skills.
Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among praised Museveni for projects including Hoima Stadium, Bunyoro University, and improved roads. Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja highlighted the opportunities NRM has created for women, citing her own rise as the first female Prime Minister from Bunyoro.
NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda Hon. Asiimwe Jonard reaffirmed the region’s strong support for the party. Meanwhile, Hoima District NRM Chairperson Vincent Muhumuza Savannah thanked Museveni for developments such as Hoima International Airport and the Regional Blood Bank but raised concerns about land evictions, appealing for government intervention to ensure secure and affordable land titles.
